Long Weekend in Miami

With freezing temperatures up north, a long weekend to Miami, Florida is a much needed. The weather is great all year round, and there’s no season where you can’t enjoy Florida’s southern coast. Whether you’re looking to shop, sip drinks, or take a stroll down Ocean Ave; a quick getaway is just what the doctor ordered. I always want to make the most of my time in paradise, so I put together a long weekend getaway itinerary for Miami.

Atton Brickell Hotel

1500 SW 1 AVE, MIAMI, FL 33129

Spent 3 nights at the Atton-Brickell hotel. Upon arrival we found it to be modern, clean, and comfortable. We partook in appetizers and the happy hour specials one night at the bar. The staff was friendly and their main focus was on making you comfortable and happy. The service was tremendous. On the 12th floor you could find the rooftop pool, which was small but a nice getaway. The rates were reasonable compared with other choices in the surrounding area. The location was centrally located, about 12 minutes from South Beach and 7 minutes from The Miami Heat Arena.

Oliver's Bistro

959 West Ave #15, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Just a short walk from ocean drive, we took a stroll and found it. Oliver's is a neighborhood gem in South Beach. We were seated immediately outside and told the specials of the day. Waiting for our food we enjoyed watching the locals go about their morning business. We enjoyed a feta omelette and an over easy egg skillet. Overall, a relaxing experience, with good service and good food.

Wynwood Walls

2520 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127, USA

Wynwood walls is a free outdoor exhibit of graffiti worthy of being called art. Fascinating how the use of contemporary art can rejuvenate a dilapidated industrial area. It is a great place to spend a few hours after South Beach. There are numerous bars and local shops in the area. Plenty of lovely and unexpected photo ops along the streets. Defiantly recommend checking it out!

Coyo Taco

2300 NW 2nd Ave Miami, FL

We were hungry after a long walk in Mynwood and passed by Coyo Tacos. The place was busy and thought we should grab a snack as the prices seemed reasonable. We ordered beers and chicken tacos. When we were waiting a "regular" said that they have the best tacos and he comes daily. Coyo Taco was absolutely delicious!

Stroll Down South Beach

Espanola Way

It's a charming little street that gets blocked off and all the tables and chairs from the many restaurants spill out onto the sidewalks. You walk down the road and can choose from one of the many places to eat. There's live music pumping, the trees are lit up, and feels very Mediterranean.

Art Deco Clock on Ocean Ave.

Versace Mansion

This beautiful mansion was built in the 1930's and was home to late fashion designer Gianni Versace. In July of 1997 Versace was killed in front of this house by a serial killer Andrew Cunanan, in broad daylight. I was told that this house is the 3rd most photographed house in America. The only way to go inside is to stay in one of the 10 villas (starting at $750 a night) or booking a reservation for dinner.

Fun in Miami

Wet Willies

760 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach

Wet Willie's is a staple on Ocean Drive. You can choose from many flavors of frozen drinks and even sample them before ordering. We grabbed our drinks and sat outside on the upstairs patio area.

E11even Miami

Looking for something totally different? This is the place. We went after the Miami Heat game and this club does not disappoint. You will have to see it to believe it!

Miami Heat Game

American Airlines Arena: 601 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL

If you are in Miami and The Heat are playing, try and get to a game! We decided to go in early because you can head down and watch the shoot around. The fans and the vibe were a lot of fun!
