Breaking Bread and Tables in Detroit Michigan

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, family, and, for some, a thrilling escape from the daily routine. For Bills fans/sports enthusiasts, Detroit offers a unique blend of excitement, history, and a vibrant sports culture. Our back to back trips to Detroit were nothing short of wonderful; not to mention back to back wins in another city.  The journey to Detroit began with a scenic 4.5-hour drive through Canada from Buffalo, NY. As we crossed the border with a sense of anticipation for the adventures that awaited us in the Motor City.

A Snowstorm Twist: The week before our Thanksgiving adventure took an unexpected turn when the Buffalo Bills game was canceled due to a snowstorm. While disappointed, we embraced the opportunity to head to Detroit for the first time and scope out the city, even though we had plans to head back there the next week for a game. We drove there and back through Canada, about 4.5 hours each way with a passport. Because of the unexpected event we got front row tickets for $20 and the bloody Mary’s in the stadium were just what we needed!

Thanksgiving Accommodations at Fort Pontchartrain Detroit: During our stay in Detroit, we had the pleasure of staying at the charming Fort Pontchartrain Detroit. Located in the heart of the city, offered a perfect blend of comfort and convenience. Its proximity to various attractions meant that we could easily explore the city on foot, immersing ourselves in its hidden gems at every corner. The Wyndham hotel provided an ideal base for our Thanksgiving adventures.

Our first stop was Little Caesars Arena, home to the Detroit Red Wings. Stepping into the arena, we were immediately struck by its modern design, and by that we mean beer shelves in the bathrooms, iykyk. Tickets were easy to find and we all had to have a slice of pizza. Following the game we headed to the Detroit Bills Party.

The Unforgettable Thanksgiving Tailgate: Thanksgiving is a time for celebration, and what better way to kick off the day than with a tailgate party? We joined Fans of Buffalo, who had prepared a sumptuous breakfast and lunch spread to commemorate the holiday. This unique Thanksgiving tailgate experience added an extra layer of joy to the day.  Tickets were purchased online a couple weeks before for a reasonable price and sat in the 100 section, 15 rows up.  After the game there was not much open as it was Thanksgiving.

Note: Tried to go to Eminem’s spot, Mom’s Spaghetti, but the hours were tough.

From the thrilling Red Wings game at Little Caesars Arena to the Thanksgiving tailgate with the Fans of Buffalo, every moment was filled with excitement and camaraderie. Although the cancellation of the Bills game due to a snowstorm was a slight disappointment, it allowed us to delve deeper into the city of Detroit'. Detroit, just like Buffalo is a blue-collar sports community.
